Have you ever asked yourself where can you have the best combination of adventure and exciting activities, fine beaches and old heritage all under a single roof?
Being a travel writer who has been touring the UAE over the past ten years, I may say that Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) has indeed become the most rapid growing adventure and nature destination in the country. RAK is a pristine amalgamation of rugged mountains, pristine beaches, rich heritage and unlimited desert dunes and is also a unique emirate.
Ras Al Khaimah has a special treat awaiting you in 2026. Whether you are a family that wants to have a good wholesome fun together, a couple that wants to have a romantic moment, or even the thrill-seeker who wants to have adrenaline rush. I have used this guide based on my exploration experiences to showcase the most interesting things to do in Ras Al Khaimah, all with practical tips and trusted facts.
Where Is Ras Al Khaimah (RAK)?
The northernmost emirate of the UAE is called Ras Al Khaimah and borders the East of the Arabian Peninsula on the Oman side. It is approximately an hour drive off Dubai which can be reached through highways of good conditions.
It lies between the Hajar Mountains and the Arabian Gulf and its capital city (also referred to as Ras Al Khaimah) is located between the two.

Being the entrance into the UAE to the North, RAK is less hectic than its neighbors are and a calm center to visit remote oases, heritage villages, and mountainous trails.
The Top Things to Do in Ras Al Khaimah
Ras Al Khaimah has numerous highlights that it might be difficult to select few. It is really the emirate that is an eye opener once you have witnessed its contrasts. Some of the top spots in RAK include the following:
Al Sawan Camel Track

The Camel Track in Al Sawan can be seen by the roadways by sports enthusiasts or curious passers-by. It is a sand circuit where camel racing takes place on weekends. You will be able to visit the stands or just watch it. The racing times are different, so check a local schedule.
Jais Flight – The Longest Zipline in the World

There is no denying the fact that the mountain to which Ras Al Khaimah is the most renowned one is Jebel Jais Mountain – particularly, since it took the position of the longest zipline on the planet. Jais Flight covers a mind boggling distance of 2.83 kilometers on the mountain top.
You hook up and fly across the jagged Hajar ridges at velocities up to 150 km/h or almost 1,700 meters above the valley floor. The excitement is paralleled by 360 degree alpine sceneries that extend to Oman.
Although it is an expensive activity (tickets are about AED 300 and more), it is a thrill like no other. The entire adventure (safety briefing and gearing up) takes only a couple of hours and that is why it is a bucket-list experience.
Jais Flight established RAK as a destination to thrill-seekers. Keep in mind that there are weight and age requirements in case of riders (call ahead to check), but in the case of qualifying adults or teenagers, it is a lifetime flight.
Ras Al Khaimah National Museum

The Ras Al Khaimah National Museum is one of my favorite places to begin. It is located in an old fort of the 19th century, located in the historic center of the city and narrates the story of the long history of the emirate.
The museum also has the collection of ancient pottery, tools and archeological discovery, displays on pearl-diving, life of Bedouin and Islamic heritage.
The fort itself (constructed of coral and stone) used to be the palace of the ruler before it was transformed into museum in the 1980s.
Working around its courtyards and shaded galleries, I constantly sense that I have been taken back in time; it is a small, well edited history lesson to history lovers and families alike of the history of RAK.
Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village

A mere few minutes’ drive out of the city, one will find Al Jazeera Al Hamra, also known as a ghost town, and one of the best-preserved heritage villages in the UAE. I adore the pleasure of strolling in its tiny streets bordered with coral-stone houses that were never inhabited, mosques, and an old fort that dates back many centuries. It is in fact the last historical pearl-fishing village in the Gulf.
The village now looks 100% like an open air museum and there is no entry fee and no staff, you just wander round its lanes and courtyards. The houses (with a good number thatched using palm logs and plastering with red mud) depict precisely the way the population used to live life before the oil riches changed everything in the area.
It is even in the UNESCO tentative World Heritage list, which is the evidence of its cultural significance. It is safer to visit during the day (8 AM-6 PM). Personally, I always find it very atmospheric: the houses, made of stone, are warmly orange at the time of sunset, and the silence, reminiscent of the past, is hinted at.
Al Hamra Marina & Yacht Club

To feel the flavor of contemporary luxury and relaxed beach life, go to Al Hamra Marina and Yacht Club (as of late renamed the Royal Yacht Club of Ras Al Khaimah). This is an enclave of this mariner which is located on the Al Hamra channel of Ras Al Khaimah, and has developed into a social community. The marina alone has more than 220 boat berths to a maximum of 200 feet, and it is enjoyable to walk the waterfront and gape at sailboats and superyachts.
On the walkway above the palm trees are posh cafes and restaurants, which are all free of charge (you never pay nothing except what you consume or drink). The atmosphere is peaceful and sophisticated: partners have cocktails with the Gulf view and families walk down the pier.
Boating is the attraction, but spending nothing to enter the marina allows you to enjoy the seaside atmosphere of RAK. (Regattas and a spa and a pool are other activities held in the club whilst staying in the nearby resort)
Suwaidi Pearls

In culture and color, The Suwaidi Pearl Farm in the north coast is excellent. This farm is owned by one of the local families that care about maintaining their pearl-diving industry, and it is a wonderful experience to interact with the history of pearl dating back to 7000 years of RAK.
A trip here is like being on a classic dhow boat: you are told how the pearling was done many centuries ago. You can feel the ride of the sea and even open live oysters in search of pearls (you can find a real pearl in the end!).
The farm is on the Al Rams Beach at the base of the Jebel Jais. This is followed by a little museum and gift shop featuring the pearl culture of this area. This is an enjoyable learning experience to any person interested in the pre-oil economy of the UAE. It is also a more family oriented and low profile activity than the adrenaline rushes – best to hang by the water, after experiencing the adrenaline rushes.
Al Qawasim Corniche

In the Ras Al Khaimah city, the Al Qawasim Corniche is one of the best places to relax. This mangrove-bordered three-kilometer seafront prominade (named after the residential ruling family) flows along a tidally-flooded mangrove.
On the way are cafes, family play areas and art installations. During weekends, you will find locals playing kite or fishing off the rail. The Corniche is also well furnished: benches, lights and even a large flagpole of UAE flag. During the night it is animated with food trucks and parties.
The best part though is that it is free to use. Essentially, Al Qawasim Corniche is the series of Al Khaimah imitation of an urban park, and a fantastic place to visit every day in the city at no cost.
Stay at Luxurious Desert and Beach Resorts
Hotels and resorts are a tourist attraction to Ras Al Khaimah. The emirate has put a lot of money on luxury accommodation facilities such as desert resorts and beachfront spas and most of the visitors spend a day or two on the premises getting pampered. As an illustration, The Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi Desert will be located in a 1,235 acres nature reserve.
The resort has falconry demonstrations, archery, stargazing as well as guided desert walks. On the beach, there are water sports and golf on the properties such as The Ritz-Carlton Al Hamra Beach (on a one mile long private beach).
The Hamra resort includes such activities as paddleboarding or beach yoga, a picturesque 18-hole sea-side golf course. Although you may not be spending much to stay at one of these resorts, you should consider spending money on a spa day or having a meal in one of them – most of them accept day guests.
To put it another way, it is the experience of being in the luxury resorts of RAK: I tend to recommend readers having tasted a desert or beach spa, which is one of the best things to do here even if you only spend an afternoon of your stay in the quiet pools or gardens of the resort.
Quad Biking in the Ras Al Khaimah Desert

An organized tour on a quad-bike is always recommendable to have a feel of the wild desert. In RAK, a number of tour operators have been providing ATV rides in the dunes, and it is an amazing adventure to experience the scenery at a close.
There is a popular safari package as an example, which takes you to best the dune fields outside the city and he drives an ATV around which is approximately 30 minutes then he rests in a Bedouin style camp where he can optionally ride on a camel and sand board.
It is a wonderful combination of sports and culture. Only make sure that you wear closed footwear and avoid the sun and sand. Even those families that have older children tend to accompany such a safari and equipment and training are normally supplied by the guides.
The Best Things to Do in Ras Al Khaimah for Free
RAK is also home to many free or very cheap attractions to budget-sensitive travelers. There are numerous parks, beaches and heritage sites which are free. Some of my favorite free experiences are listed below:
Flamingo Beach

Beautiful open beach at Al Hamra having soft sand and shallow water. It is located behind huge dunes, so it is family friendly and, no, there is free entry. I usually bring my children there: they enjoy the tide pools, and see the dhow boats in the far. It has toilets and a small number of kiosks, and no entry fee.
Jebel Jais Mountains

The ascendancy to the summit of the UAE is liberated. The mountain road and viewpoints do not need a permit or fee. You will be able to have breathtaking views and hike dozens of trails without spending a dirham. I suggest the Jebel Jais Viewing Deck Park as the place of a photo, or off-road wadis. You only need to pack water and get up early to beat afternoon heat – it is worth the view of 1,934m.
Mohammed Bin Salem Mosque

This mosque is one of the oldest in the emirate located in old RAK city. It is constructed of coral stone and wood which are of simple traditional design. Tourists (regardless of their religion) are free to roam the quiet prayer hall and the courtyard. I use it as a peaceful place to have a short relaxation, and it is almost next to other heritage sites at the corniche.
Geocaching Adventures
Surprisingly enough, Ras Al Khaimah is a fabulous geocaching destination – the global GPS treasure hunt. Parks, malls and even wadis have a lot of caches hidden. It is free and the app will provide you with location details to locate small treasure containers in case you have never tried it. It is an entertaining means of getting out into the off-the-beaten-path places, and it requires no money, only the determination to keep on.
Sparky’s RAK Mall

Sparky amusement arcade within RAK Mall is entertaining to little kids. It is an indoor playground on the second floor, which has mini roller-coasters, bumper cars and video games. You can pay on a per ride basis, however, entry to the mall and the play area is free. It is entertaining to see children playing bumper cars (and, free of charge). It is a pleasant respite to outdoor activity in case you need air-conditioning and kidney rides.
Dhayah Fort

It is a free climbing hilltop mud-brick fort. Even mountains of Oman can be seen on the top as well as date palm groves of Wadi Bih. The fort is 18 th century and was one of the last hold outs to the British navy.
Al Rams and Saraya Island

To the north of Al Hamra, there is an offbeat seaside resort, the Al Rams Beach and the small Saraya Island. The waters are here shallow and transparent. There is also no charge to visit the undeveloped mangrove walks and beaches. Kayaks and paddleboards may be rented but even simple beachcombing is stunning. The water is of a pink color on some evenings due to the presence of microorganisms (so-called pink lake of Al Rams), which is also an interesting natural process.
Visit a Souq

Ras Al Khaimah has small local souqs (markets) with which you can shop Persian spices, textiles, spices and gold jewelry. I like walking in the Kuwaiti Souq located in the center of the city and observing the stalls. It is free to window shop and do not forget that bargaining is an experience. It is an awesome introduction to a different culture (and the incense is divine).
Al Marjan Island Beaches

The crescent-shaped Al Marjan Island per se is an artificial island chain comprising of a number of public beaches. These are free beaches (at least with the possible exception of a small parking fee) with smooth and shallow waters where a person can swim without a serious workout. All you need is snorkeling equipment and you can find colorful fish in the proximity of the shore – without a day pass to the resort.
Swim at Public Beaches
Generally, Ras Al Khaimah has over 64 km of coastline and tens of publicly available beaches. Outside Flamingo beach, there are other open spots such as the Al Hamra Beach, Al Maareed, and the AlJissah. A lot of them contain amenities and lifeguards. One summer, we went to the Al Hamra Beach Park (near the Al Wadi Resort) and it was clean and quiet. You are able to take a picnic and have all the amenities of the beach at the cost of a swim cap (no entry fees).
The Malls (Shopping Centers)

The Al Hamra Mall, Manar Mall and RAK Mall are free to visit. Although you may not be in the mood to shop, the indoor gardens, fountains and the food courts in these malls are also good places to visit to browse or have a cheap meal. Manar Mall goes as far as having an open skating rink during the weekends. This is virtually a free outdoor event without weather since it is too hot to go outside.
Wadi Bih

Wadi Bih is a popular hiking and off-road destination located across the border to Oman but reachable by car in RAK. There is no fee to enter (there could be a small visa fee to enter Oman). It is unrefined – carry supplies, no charge of admission. The winding drive is also among the best free things in RAK.
Top Fun Things to Do in Ras Al Khaimah
Ras Al Khaimah is superior in providing thrilling experiences to the adrenaline rushers as well as the night-time entertainment seekers which are a combination of high adrenaline activities with vibrant entertainment opportunities.
You can be flying at blazing speeds in the airplanes, or partying under the stars, the activities are based on the multicultural landscapes and urban atmosphere of RAK, and you will never forget these moments in 2026. According to reliable sources of travel, the following parts explore in details how to add the spice into your trip.
Adventure and Thrill Activities
RAK is made to suit the adrenaline enthusiasts. The emirate is an adventure destination that has taken off with extreme activities featured in its mountain heights to desert sands. It has world-best ziplining and ropes courses in the mountains. Rally tracks, mountain biking and even hot-air balls in the morning are found in the desert. The largest adventure and thrill rides are listed below:
Hot Air Balloon Flights

To have another type of adventure, think of a sunrise hot-air balloon adventure above the desert plains of RAK. One of the travelers’ agents explains it in the following way: at dawn “you’ll take in panoramic views of the desert plains and Hajar Mountains”.
I have been flying through dunes of sand prior to breakfast, and watched camels down in the valley – a calm yet intoxicating adventure. These flights take 4-5 hours (including pickup) and cost several hundred dirhams but the experience of watching the sun rise in a basket is memorable.
RAK Track (Go-Kart Racing)

RAK Track (Al Nakheel) is the sole outside kart racing circuit in the emirate. It is a 1.2 km tarmac race circuit that has difficult corners and straights known to be speedy. They also provide junior karts, and therefore older children (8 years and above) can also participate. It will cost per race, but the prices of such tracks are normally around AED 70-100 per 10-15 minutes. One of the fun activities in the desert must surely be racing laps under the desert wind.
Nightlife and Indoor Entertainment
RAK is not as nocturnal as Dubai but the city has entertainment spots accessible in the evening where one can listen to music, play games and watch movies. At night, in case of the sun setting down, you can party or play indoors:
The VIBE Nightclub
It is the first night club in Ras Al Khaimah (in the hotel of Julphar Plaza). One night after a conference I have been here, and it was quite livelier than I had expected. The high-energy sets are played by live DJs and bands until the early morning hours.
The crowd is both a blend of expat and locals, and they usually have theme parties or events. The Wanderlog travel guide calls it “a lively venue with live DJs and bands that keep the energy high into the early hours”. Dress up and visit to have a night of dancing – it is amongst the few places in RAK where you will find people dancing on the tables even past the midnights.
Shoothouse Billiards & Snooker
To have a more easy-going evening, there are two contemporary pool halls in RAK. The most famous is Shoothouse (in Al Nakheel district). It is air-conditioned, clean and stays open late (weekends may be up until 3 AM). Tables are of good quality and it has a small cafe.
A lot of visitors (including my visit on rainy evenings) would take a cue and play a couple of games on snacks. As one guide notes, Shoothouse “is a popular destination for billiards enthusiasts, offering high-quality tables and a welcoming atmosphere”.
Pool is pay per hour pool and they also have snooker tables and 8 balls. It’s great fun with a group of friends.
Gulf Cinema (Star Cinemas)

The most recent multiplex cinemas in RAK are Bollywood, Hollywood and Arabic based films, which are shown in the latest multiplex cinemas in RAK (the Gulf Cinema/Star Cinemas in Manar Mall). The prices of the tickets are not high (approximately AED 30-40) which makes it a low-cost entertainment option.
When you feel like relaxing, even in the evening or in the afternoon, there is a traditional indoor entertainment at the Gulf Cinema where you can enjoy watching a movie. Maharaja Tickets are also cheaper during weekdays.
Other out-after-dark places are a handful of piano bars in resorts (such as The Ritz or Hilton Marjan Island) and some live music nights in hotels. However, in reality, most of the visitors in RAK would enjoy cocktails in the stars on a rooftop than go club hopping. Nevertheless, in case you are inclined to a night out, the places mentioned above will make you be entertained.
Things to Do in Ras Al Khaimah with Kids
It is unexpectedly convenient and entertaining to travel with kids in RAK – there are numerous activities that will entertain the little explorers and families:
Jais Ropes Course

The Jebel Jais high-rope adventure is designed to thrill all ages. It has a junior section and complete section of platforms and swings on high poles.
It is one hour of well supervised fun on the air. The lower level can be usually accomplished by people who are afraid of heights. They supply all the harnesses and safety equipment.
RAK Track (Junior Karts)
As stated, RAK Track has junior karts that are available to kids. At a slower speed, children as young as 8 years can operate such smaller karts. I brought my nephew there, and a brief lesson on safety and he was running round under my supervision.
This will be the first taste of driving in reality to a good number of kids. Adults may be in a kart with their parents or may switch turns. It is a day of good competitiveness and wide smiling days in the family.
Saqr Park

This is a large family-favorite city park. Saqr Park is not any ordinary grass field, but rather it is full of activities that children will enjoy. It has a big artificial lake with pedal boats, where we had a miserable afternoon sailing. And there is an arcade and an amusement section: carousel, bumper cars and a mini Ferris wheel, electronic games and a small roller coaster as well.
The children are able to play on the slides and swings within the open playground area as well. Summing up, Saqr Park can be compared to a free (extremely cheap) amusement park – you just have to pay as much as you want to ride. It is among the best family activities in RAK.
And besides these, do not forget about simple fun: sandcastle construction on Flamingo Beach, hiking through simple wadis (such as Wadi Shawka) or visiting an outdoor water park (assuming there is one at the time).
There are also numerous hotels with kids pools and clubs in case you spend the night there this too is another advantage of the resort life in RAK. In a word, RAK is highly kid-friendly.
Conclusion

You are a family and want to have safe and various activities (consider Saqr Park, family safaris and educational farms), a couple and want to be offered romance (sunset mountain hikes, beach resorts and quiet mangrove walks), a lone adventurer and want to have some thrills (zip-lining, karts, ballooning), or a low-end traveler and admire free attractions (heritage sites, corniche walks and public beaches), Ras Al Khaimah can bring it.
