Although licence plates seem to be an unremarkable feature of a car, sometimes they can be a feature of wealth and power. Some pay huge money for license plates with certain numbers and unique or significant combinations of letters and numbers. Dubai, which has turned into a global center for major investors, also owns some of the most expensive number plates in the world.
In the following, we provided a list of the most expensive number plates sold in Dubai and their owners.
- P 7 – Dubai => AED 55,093,500 ($15 million)
An anonymous Emirate bidder paid Dh55 million or $ 15 million for Dubai’s number plate P7 in an auction on April 9, 2023. The auction was held to improve the global hanger at Seasons Hotel in Dubai.
- AA 9 –Dubai => AED 37,830,870 ($10.3 million)
In another charity auction by the Most Nobel Numbers, held by the Road and Transport Authority in Dubai, the number plate AA 9 was sold for Dh38 million in May 2021.
- AA 8 –Dubai => AED 34,892,550 ($9.5 million)
AA 8 Dubai number plate sold for Dh 35 million at the Most Nobel Numbers auction in 2022. The news is that the new owner is the one who already owns the world’s most expensive license plate ever sold, Dubai P 7.
- D 5 –Dubai => AED 32,688,810 ($8.9 million)
Next on our list of the most expensive number plates is D 5 sold for Dh 33 million in 2016. The new owner was a Dubai-based Indian businessman named Balvinder Sanhi. He bought D 5 at an RTA auction and put the number on one of his Rolls-Royce cars.
- 09 –Dubai => AED 24,975,720 ($6.8 million)
09 number plate also belongs to Balvinder Sahni, the successful bidder of D 5. 09 sold for Dh 24.5 million in 2015. The money was donated subsequently to a charity to build children’s hospital.
